PAPI is a personality measure which was specifically designed to elicit behaviours
and preferences which are appropriate to the workplace. It is not a timed
test of ability or competence. A self-report inventory, PAPI actually
consists of two distinct but interacting questionnaires, measuring
a person’s ‘Roles’ and ‘Needs’.
Roles measure a person’s perception
of their work situation, and are significant determinants of behaviour
that are largely external to the individual. They include situational
characteristics that put pressure on an individual to behave in a certain
way and thus reflect the person’s perception of the organisation’s culture
and the job requirements that this imposes on them.
